Pike and Green – some notes:
Long a commercial centre, early West Country merchants seemed to have taken a great interest in Carbonear and Pike and Green were busily employed in their Water Street premises as early as the 1750s. ……… the early Pike and Green establishment ownership, followed by George and James Kemp in 1790 and still later by Slade and Elson.
The records for the 1750s and 1760s were checked carefully and spot checks were made following this period……….. the 250-ton Escape in 1763 for Pike & Green;

they have anor viz the Swift Capt Rider siez’d there, the latter
was taken by a large French Privateer & ransom’d for 3000 Guineas
& after not knowg it was war with Spain put into Alicant and there siez’d
not insured on this last Ship. Pike & Green Value ye 3 Ships at £12000 including their Cargo’s.
